Today’s soldiers can be trained in close-quarters combat but there is a stronger emphasis on more effective battle tactics in engaging the enemy at range with weapons. There was a need for a natural art that could be learned quickly and could be applicable in constant conflicts on the borders with the peoples of India and China. Ground fighting, grappling, pugil bouts, bayonet dummies, and other techniques are used to familiarize Marines with the application of the techniques used.
