The 6,000-acre lake is open to sailing, kayaking, and boating (as long as there’s no wake), and is particularly popular for catching trout. About a 90-minute drive from the RV campground, the sand dunes at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains tower up to 750 feet tall. If you’ve got the stamina for it, you can climb to the top of these dunes, but beware of hiking in the midday summer sun when the sand is blisteringly hot.
