As a person who has applied to a handful of colleges and isn’t certain that they are right for me, I wanted to share a few things that may have helped me at spelman. Any applicant who has never attended college as a full-time, degree-seeking student is considered a new first-time student. New first-time applicants must show proof of graduation from high school, or the equivalent, taking two sat subject tests on the same day prior to enrollment at Spelman College. In 2019, the average high school GPA of Spelman’s incoming freshman class was 3.76, and over 51% of incoming students had average GPAs of 3.75 and above. These results suggest that most successful applicants to Spelman College have primarily A grades. Spelman College is a historically Black women’s college with an acceptance rate of 43%.

Moreover, the submission of ACT scores is mandatory to be considered for admission. As many as 51% of the applicants submit their ACT scores for admission to the university, as per the latest information. Spelman College has suspended the standardized testing requirement for students applying for the class of 2025. This policy applies to all new first-time application cycles, including early decision, early notification and regular decision. Students who choose to apply to Spelman without test scores will not be disadvantaged in the review process. We understand that some students will still have access to standardized tests and would like for their scores to be considered.

Spelman has a strong liberal arts focus and an 10-to-1 student/faculty ratio. The college reviews your academic profile to make sure that you are qualified. For applicants who don’t meet academic requirements, chances of acceptance drop significantly, regardless of their strength elsewhere. We share the value of the liberal arts colleges with families and give liberal arts schools the opportunity to highlight their unique characteristics. Our goal is to make it easy for students to discover top liberal arts colleges.
